A 6 Star Green Star rated building.

The Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre is a swimming centre that serves the Darebin City Council community. When the previous facility reached the end of its life after more than half a century service to the community, the Council decided to build a brand new, eco-sustainable centre targeting for net zero emissions. The pool is set to become a benchmark for sustainability in all its aspects, being marketed as an all-electric swimming pool centre and the most eco-friendly in Australia.  The NARC will offer amongst other things outdoor and indoor pools with a length of 25 and 50 meters.

Rubner partnered with Kane Construction, the Head Contractor, to consult for the most efficient timber structure based on the architectural model by Warren and Mahoney, the Architect, and the structural model of TTW, the Structural Engineer. After having detailed design, the glulam roofing structure featuring 31mt long beams, bracing and secondary elements, Rubner has designed and engineered the entire ceiling structure formed by a cassette system, factory assembled with insulation and featuring visible battens, furthermore Materials have been selected to minimize the carbon footprint of the construction and increase durability.

The new Aquatic and Recreation Centre will be a 6 Star Green Star rated facility, demonstrating a commitment and leadership in climate action and in delivering innovative environmentally sustainable projects.

The Reopening of the Northcote Aquatic Centre is planed by mid-November. A huge step into a more sustainable future.
