Lauded as the most exciting product release at the recently staged Australian Designex – an annual event showcasing the very latest in interior design – the Smeg 90cm dishwasher is seen as a genuine and inspiring innovation in domestic dishwasher design.
Measuring a full 90cm in width and only 58cm high, the STH905 is designed to be fully integrated directly below the benchtop or at chest height in a wall column. The 34cm deep door – conventional dishwasher doors are at least 65cm deep – is fitted with a panel and handle in the same materials as existing cabinetry.
The dishwasher has two stainless steel baskets that sit side by side and hold 12 standard place settings – the same as most conventional dishwashers. The baskets are deep enough to hold 31cm diameter plates and have six collapsible dish racks to ensure maximum versatility in the accommodation of large and awkwardly shaped saucepans, platters and oven racks/trays.
With 10 wash programmes and five wash temperatures – between 38ºC and 70ºC – the STH905 caters for all wash loads, from the most delicate of long-stemmed glassware to the dirtiest, baked on food scraps of saucepans and baking dishes. A standard wash consumes only 13 litres of water and the annual energy consumption of the appliance is a mere 231kW.
For sheer convenience the STH905 is a step ahead with a five-stage cleaning filter that reduces all food scraps to a fine paste, therefore negating the need to manually remove any food remnants.
And for safety, the appliance features a six stage full water-stop safety system and an anti-jam synchronous pump motor – plus a concealed high-speed water heating element.
The electronic controls of the STH905 are concealed within the top edge of the door while two halogen lights within the cavity of the appliance ensure a clear view of the contents.
One of the more obvious benefits of this innovative design is the ergonomics – no need to bend when loading and unloading the dishwasher.
