After 19 years as the premier event on the building and design industries event calendar, Designbuild will be even bigger and better this year, according to organisers Australian Exhibition Services.
“For the first time, Designbuild will occupy four halls at Sydney’s Exhibition Centre- 25% more than the last Sydney show,” says Bill Hare, exhibition director.
More than 400 exhibitors from 18 countries, including major group stands from Canada, China and Malaysia are booked with major names participating including Aquadux, Architectural Window Systems, ASSA Abloy Aust-Lockwood, Autodesk Australia, BlueScope Steel, C & M Brick, CDK Stone, CS Cavity Sliders, CSR Panel Systems, Dulux Powder Coatings, Dynalite, Gunnersen Timbermark, Hafele Australia, Issey Sun Shade Systems, Makita Australia, Moen Glass, Rheem Australia, and Trend Windows and Doors.
In conjunction with the show, Designbuild 2005 will host a series of events and seminars themed “Thinking about the future” which will run daily and which are free to all visitors.
On World Environment Day, Sunday, June 5, Tone Wheeler, a leading environmental architect, will lead a tour from the show around some of the most environmentally sustainable buildings in Sydney.
In the seminar theatre during the afternoon following the tour, speakers will focus on the environment and the hot topic ‘Sustainability.’ Jon Farren will speak on ‘Building Acoustics and Noise Control’; Chris Derksema on ‘the Green Star rating’; Caroline Pidcock on ‘What does a Sustainable Future Mean?’; Adrian McGregor on ‘Emerging Urban Space in Sydney’ and Gerard Reinmuth on ‘Overcoming Sentimentality’.
Associated industry shows
Designbuild’s association with The National Plumbing Show featuring classic and contemporary plumbing and mechanical services. This ‘show-within-a-show’ will showcase the largest plumbing display ever presented in Australia. Highlights include continuous hot water systems, waterproofing, backflow prevention, sealants and adhesives, tapware and fire protection.
This year Tilex will, for the first time, be staged in conjunction with Finishes and Surfaces , forming Australia’s only trade event with all surface solutions on show. Finishes and Surfaces is Australia’s only specialist event for architectural surfacing products while Tilex will feature the largest collection of tile and stone products in Australasia. There will be displays of tile, stone and terracotta on show alongside the latest in timber flooring, carpet, laminates, paints and coatings plus adhesives, installation systems, tools, machinery, equipment, sealants and cleaners.
Frame Australia stands alone as the only exhibition of its kind staged outside the US, offering designers and manufacturers of domestic or commercial timber frame constructions (including roof truss, floor truss or wall framing systems) a powerful marketing opportunity.
Key industry sectors at Designbuild are catered for with product feature areas within the exhibition enabling visitors to quickly locate any products or companies that are of particular interest.
Interiors is an area specifically dedicated to the interior design and decorating industry and features a comprehensive range of wall finishes, lighting, architectural hardware, furnishings and floor coverings
Info Tech showcases innovative computer hardware and software for building applications, design solutions and project management along with the latest CAD technology. Visitors will find the following on show: computer software and hardware, CAD, drawing equipment, web services, information services and telecommunications.
Window and Glass Technology features the most recent window, door and glass technology including details of the Windows Energy Rating Scheme. This fast evolving industry showcases new technologies that create stronger, safer products, plus an ever-changing range of looks.
Building Materials and Equipment are in a designated area that allows for the presentation of a full range of building materials as well as the latest in equipment for residential, commercial and industrial building and design. These include masonry, plasterboard, timber, steel, cladding, concrete, coatings, fastening and fixing, roofing, site works and equipment and tools.
Designbuild is also a focal point for many industry associations and groups to run conferences and seminars alongside the exhibition. For example, the Australian Tile Council and the Australian Stone Advisory Association will present a four-day seminar program for specifiers, architects and the industry at Tilex covering a range of topics related to installation, care and maintenance of both tile and stone.The connected home market has experienced significant growth in the past 12 months with developments in technology and significant integration of various skills and trades. This conference, supported by CEDIA and AEEMA, provides a neutral meeting place for builders / developers, designers / installers and suppliers / resellers to acquaint themselves with the latest trends and advances in industry research, technology, industry standards and the business opportunities in home automation and connectivity.
The best new product awards will be presented on 6th June. In 2004 APN and Selector.com awarded the Best New Product Award to Connolly Key Joint for its expansion joint while the Environ / Designbuild ESD product Award, sponsored and judged by environ, BPN and InfoLink magazines winner was the SunPro Solar continuous gas hot water system from Dux Hot Water.
New products
New products will debuted in all sectors of the show, from plumbing and building products, to stone and tile products and design software. Among company’s to keep a look out for are:
Eco-Block which can now create and fire and impact sound rated wall in the one system which has been deemed by an accredited accoutics consultant as meeting the BCA requirements to be “sufficient to prevent the illness or loss amenity to the occupants with regard to the isolation of impact noise.”
De Poortere which is launching 2tec2, a woven vinyl flooring for indoor and outdoor use while Air-Cell will present new technology insulation that represents a breakthrough in insulation which is only 7mm thick but offers superior themal performance in a fibre-free, non-allergenic and non-itchy material.
Meanwhile Australian Electrical Supplies is showing Orbit, an ultra-safe wiring system that mimics traditional skirting boards and incorporates a series of electrical cables mounted internally and Breeze Power will exhibit the new BlokUp sliding or hinged glass door brick.
For DIYers, as well as specifiers, Bridge and Co is showing the Antiqua modular railing system which is imported from Germany and made from 316 L grade stainless steel. Masport has introduced a world first remote temperature control and timing technology to its range of gas fires as well as releasing three new gas fire modules - Roma, Hampton and Surefire.
Quik’nTuff Systems will display its newly released QT EcoSEPARATE wall system which is manufactured from Conpolcrete non -combustible insulating masonry which is said to be outstanding choice of separation walls for units and townhouse construction. Reckli is launching Reckli-Vectogramm form liners which enables an impression of almost anything to be made. Another innovative decorative element launched at the show will be Decorative Imaging’s technique for applying any photographic image into a durable polyurethane powder coated surface, for example an authentic woodgrain finish on aluminium windows and doors but also marble and granite finishes on sheets and artistic patterns.
MyVirtual Home is releasing an easy-to-use home design software package that allows consumers download real products from real suppliers, seeing what is available first before talking to their architect or builder.
Designbuild Australia will be staged at the Sydney Exhibition Centre from 5 – 8 June 2005.
