Boral Timbe r has relaunched its Natural Grade of native hardwood flooring, and adding block parquetry to the range.

While in the past, consumers and architects have showed a preference for Boral’s Classic grade timbers for their limited variation in grain, texture and colour, there is now a growing trend in the Australian domestic and commercial market to specify natural grade flooring.

Natural Grade is distinguished by the gum veins, spirals, burls, insect trails and other natural variations that give timber floors a unique character. “Parquetry flooring has been around for a long time but is enjoying a resurgence as consumers are looking for more individual floor coverings,” says Malcolm Johnston, Boral Timber’s national product manager, hardwoods. “Natural parquetry is unique in that it puts the natural variations of native hardwood timbers into the context of an intricate geometric design which suits both commercial and domestic applicatioins. We are seeing Natural Parquetry used in hotel lobbies and retail stores as well as suburban homes.”

Parquetry flooring is manufactured in blocks, not dissimilar to tiles. These are laid directly over concrete using construction grade adhesive. Species available in Natural Grade parquetry include Blackbutt, Australian Beech, Alpine Ash, Spotted Gum, Tallowwood, Brushbox and Sydney Blue Gum.
