Exhibits at the highway association's annual equipment show fill Wellesley DPW yard
As expected by its planners, the 44th Annual Equipment Products and Services Show, presented by the Norfolk-Bristol-Middlesex Highway Association and hosted by the town of Wellesley Department of Public Works' Highway Division, was a huge success.
More than 600 public works officials viewed over 80 exhibits that filled the Wellesley DPW yard to capacity.
The one-day event highlighted the latest developments in equipment, materials and services employed in public works construction and maintenance. Equipment on display included backhoes, loaders, pavement rollers, skid-steer tractors, mini-excavators, street sweepers, and dump trucks.
Other exhibits included high-pressure washers, catch basin cleaners, precast concrete products, plastic drainage pipe, snowplows, snow blowers, boom lifts, truck-mounted cranes, and infrared pavement patching machines.
The show list continued with truck bodies and tires, concrete and brick pavers, street signs, workers' safety apparel and equipment, and providers of services, such as fuel suppliers, consulting firms, weather forecasters, and specialty contractors.
Visitors were treated to free coffee, doughnuts and soft drinks provided by NBM, Atlantic Broom Service Inc. and All States Asphalt Inc. And the $25 meal ticket included a varied selection from Jean's Catering offering chili with crackers and hot sauce, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, potato salad, boneless breast of chicken, and other food and refreshments.
The show provided the opportunity for public works directors, highway superintendents, elected officials, town managers, mayors, and selectmen to make informed decisions about the equipment they will purchase for their towns. Product distributors and manufacturers' representatives were available to answer questions about the products.
According to Joseph Welch, president, NBM Highway Association, "it is through the efforts of everyone that this annual event has become a huge success year after year.
"I was glad to see visitors taking advantage of the day to visit all of the display booths and enjoy the luncheon."
