Queensland company LCR Lindores Group has entered Australia’s large crane market, acquiring one of the world’s largest cranes for US$4 million (AUS$8 million).
The German built Demag CC 2600 Littii Boom Crane can extend to 180 metres in height and can lift up to 600 tonne at a time. There are only three such cranes anywhere in the world.
Director Peter Lindores said LCR Lindores Group has acquired the crane as part of its strategic plan to service industries outside of traditional construction areas, such as the petrochemical, communications and energy industries and major plant refurbishment.
“The crane can be used on large bridge works and stadium roofs, but our main focus will be on energy, mining and big plant works,” he said.
LCR Lindores Group is based in Brisbane and also has operations on the Gold Coast, in Townsville, Cairns, Darwin, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.
The company has worked on some of Australia’s biggest construction projects, including the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, recent extensions to the Royal Brisbane Hospital, the Docklands site in Melbourne, Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast and Angel Place in Sydney.
Peter Lindores said the new crane will allow LCR Lindores to provide a more comprehensive service and reduce risks for its blue-chip clients.
He said the crane, which takes four to five days to assemble, cuts down on construction time and risks because it allows large pieces to be constructed and then lifted from the ground.
“It can do huge lifts from the ground, which lowers the risks of people working in the air,” Lindores said.
“Big pieces can be constructed on the ground and you only need to have two to three people at either end in the air. It minimises the risks for the workers and the public.”
