Excellent bricks
Austral Bowral dry pressed bricks were used in the construction of Pymble Ladies College -New Conde library, winner of the MBA excellence in construction award for best use of bricks 2001 and the MCA excellence in brickwork for public and commercial buildings.
Around 80,000 Gertrudis Brown dry pressed bricks from Austral’s Bowral plant were used in the library which was designed by PDML Architecture plus Design and built by Gledhill Constructions.
Brett Ward, Austral Brick’s marketing manager, says the new library had to match the school’s original 1938 brick buildings. “A variety of special shapes including Plinth Stretchers and Squints were used to maintain the 1938 look,” he says. “It shows Austral Bowral can produce special shapes and sizes for special projects.”
Ward says the company invites architects to consult with it on their future architectural projects “so that we can work together to create beautiful clay brick buildings.”
