Renting Provides Pinnacle Construction The Exact Machines To Meet Their Needs

Pinnacle Construction is at work on a new four-story, 5574.18-square-meter Marriott Residence Inn Hotel near Wichita's new Waterfront development. They started the project in December and it is to be completed by August.

The Wichita contractor specializes in hotels, retail spaces and industrial building and is well aware of the varied equipment requirements needed for a successful project.

"Renting provides us an advantage because we can change to the exact size or model of equipment we need, when we need it," said Pinnacle Superintendent Dennis Sullivan. "We work with Foley Supply because they have the equipment readily available and because they provide great service on all their machines, whether we own them or are renting."

On a project such as the Residence Inn, the lifting requirements are varied and change as the work progresses. Pinnacle has used five different rented Genie boom lift models, from the S-45, S-65 and S-85 to the Z-45 and Z-60. They have also rented three different sizes of Caterpillar telehandlers: TH 360B, TH460B and TH580B.

"We used the 580 for our high, heavy lifting of lumber and roof materials and dropped down to the smaller lift (the 360) because it is more maneuverable around the job site," Sullivan said. "Those machines (the Cat telehandlers) are great. They work well to get the materials up to where we need them and the outriggers help them stay stable."

In addition to lifting materials, the telehandlers are quick and versatile enough for use in moving materials around on the site.

"They're doing a couple of good projects in the Waterfront development and we try to get the equipment they need and save them money by getting them the right-sized equipment instead of having a larger piece of equipment that may cost them more," said Kent Hawkins of Foley Supply, The Cat Rental Store in Wichita.
