KENNARDS Hire has added more 3.5t Takeuchi excavators to its fleet of small earthmovers as part of a $27 million outlay this financial year on new equipment. Theses machines, which have been successfully trialled at select hire centres over the past 18 months, are relatively small, yet have more power than the company’s standard 1.5t mini excavator. They are 1.6m wide, 2.4m high and 4.9m long, and come with a one metre mud bucket and 500 mm and 250 mm excavation buckets, as well as a rock grab attachment for logs and boulders.
Bartlett Plumbing is a regular hirer of the 3.5t model. “It depends on the job,” says Bartlett’s Grant Wallace, who used one of the machines to dig a 150m long trench for a six-inch (15.24 cm) fire service. “We needed the bigger excavator for this job because we are digging through shale, which can be hard going, and this machine has a lot of power.” A micro 835 kg model, which is just 740 mm wide, is also available.
