MAROOCHY Shire Council has approved FKP Limited’s development of 1000 residential lots at Coolum Ridges, Queensland, an environmentally and community friendly development, with construction scheduled to start in January 2004.
FKP director Des Forrester said that the Coolum Ridges development plan exceeded the council’s environmental requirements for open space and flora and fauna preservation.
“Council’s open space policy required us to provide two 1ha parks. We are providing three, plus a 4ha community precinct that will have two sporting ovals. The road system has been designed to work around the trees,” he said.
Environmental features of the development include water sensitive urban design practices, energy efficient housing design guidelines, 50ha dedicated to conservation and open space, with boardwalks through the conservation areas.
FKP also plans to construct a $5 million traffic interchange to improve traffic flow between Coolum Ridges and the Sunshine Coast Motorway.
FKP has been recognised for their environmental developments, having won the environmental excellence category at the 2003 NSW Case Earth Awards for The Precinct at Castle Hill.
