BOVIS Lend Lease has been ranked top in the industrial category by the Construction Quality Assessment System for its work on the Honeywell building in Singapore. Developed by the Building and Construction Authority, the system measures workmanship and quality of completed buildings in Singapore. Bovis Lend Lease has been responsible for the design and construction of the six-storey building and for the interior fitout.
TRAINING FUND
CONSTRUCTION Industry Training Board in South Australia will spend $9.8 million this financial year on training up to 1,000 apprentices and trainees and another 20,000 workers of the construction industry. The board has allocated $2.1m for training in the civil sector during the year, $3.4m for the commercial sector and $4.1m for the housing sector. It will continue to support a Doorways2Construction program which introduces secondary school students to the construction industry. It has spent $30m on training in SA during the past eight years.
ENGINEERS MOVE
TAYLOR Woodrow Construction has agreed with GHD engineering consultancy to transfer the Australian management and staff of its subsidiary Taywood Engineering to GHD. Taywood has specialised in the science of concrete deterioration, corrosion protection and material selection. Its 20 staff are moving from Perth, Sydney and Melbourne to trade under the GHD name in Sydney.
BUILDER OF YEAR
MORE than 900 guests have attended the annual housing awards presentation ceremony of the Master Builders Association of NSW. Building companies involved in the awards include Multiplex Constructions, Barclay Mowlem, Mirvac and Clarendon Homes. Gordon Nicholas Pty Ltd won the award for master builder of the year.
