AASHTO Launches Highway System Anniversary Website
In preparation for the 50th anniversary of the Interstate Highway System in 2006, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) has launched a website dedicated to honoring that historic event, www.interstate50th.org. The website is part of AASHTO's yearlong observance of the Interstate Highway System's anniversary and its significance in unifying the nation and providing mobility to its citizens.
The website will expand over the next 20 months to serve as a clearinghouse of interstate anniversary activities in the states. Users will be able to view the history of the interstate system, learn facts about the system, contribute personal interstate stories, and view the stories of interstate pioneers and unique engineering feats of the 75639.17-km network. Next summer it will feature a daily report of a cross-country convoy retracing the route of the two-month 1919 military convoy in which then Lieutenant Colonel Dwight David Eisenhower traveled from Washington, D.C., to San Francisco.

National Demolition Association Offers "Members Only" Services
Current and new members of the National Demolition Association can now take advantage of a "Members Only" page that has been launched on the association website www.demolitionassociation.com. The first featured item on the page is a Model Drug and Alcohol Program for the demolition industry.
The Model Drug and Alcohol Program, created by Mark Lies, one of the leading occupational safety and health attorneys in the country, presents the elements of a model program that many of the industry's clients are now requiring as part of their pre-bid submittals. The program is meant as a guide to the various state and federal programs. In actual practice, each member company must develop a company-specific program to meet the needs of their own firm's personnel policies, as well as the requirements of the states where they perform work. This should also be reviewed by the firm's attorney to assure local and state compliance.
To learn more about the National Demolition Association's "Members Only" section of the association's website, go to www.demolitionassociation.com, send an e-mail to info@demolitionassociation.com or call (800) 541-2412.
