The transformation of Wollongong’s waterfront is part of the Wollongong Blue Mile project. The waterfront transformation includes the rejuvenation of the children’s playground on the boat harbour foreshore.
The council selected a Landscape Architect and Moduplay Commercial Play Systems to design the layout of the playground. It was requested that the playground reflected heritage and historic values of the area. The area was once a working harbour that exported local coal to Sydney via steamships.
The playground design features a coal skip multi-rocker, railway tracks and rail car bumper as well as a Mine Gantry Crane slide platform.
The playground design also includes a pleasant sitting area formed by the shape of the bow of a boat and the playground is integrated into a sloping site with steps that allow for a terraced design.
