The Maxitek museum rolling storage system designed, manufactured and installed by Bosco Storage Solutions to house the Australian Museum’s unique and extensive palaeontology collection was custom-built to meet the vital security and accessibility requirements of the Museum.
The Australian Museum’s display possesses scientific and cultural values and content that makes it the nation’s most important animal, mineral, fossil and anthropological collections, valuable resources for scientific research and for the ongoing knowledge and information of the entire community.
Challenging to the museum rolling storage project was not just the large volume of storage required, ongoing research and maintenance mean that specimens need to be temporarily relocated from the museum rolling storage area to the geological preparation laboratory.
Bosco Storage Solutions’ custom-designed museum rolling storage installation, with its flexible configurations of high density drawer storage housed within the rolling shelving framework, enable movement of the actual specimen drawer from the storage area eliminating handling of these valuable resources while providing secure and maximised storage.
The Australian Museum was founded in 1827 and throughout its development has assumed a prominent stature in the Sydney landscape. Located in College Street in Sydney, and with a long history of research in palaeontology, the Australian Museum anthology contains a number of the museum’s treasures.
With features, such as the strength of steel, sprinkler system decoy, bearings on all drawers, individual extrusions to enable clear labelling of each drawer’s contents, and safety thumb latches on drawers which prevents drawers from sliding open, secure handling and storage of the palaeontology collection’s priceless contents is assured. The current installation consists of 282 bays incorporating 3500 high density drawers providing 5138m2 of storage.
