Swissôtel Sydney officially opened its doors earlier this month. The hotel, located at the corner of Market and George Streets above Grace Brothers Department Store, greets guests with an elegant and contemporary ground floor lobby, grand sense of arrival in the hotel's main lobby on Level 8 and an enhanced executive lounge - all designed by the Sydney office of leading international hotel design firm BBGM. The most striking addition to the property is the Crossroads Bar, which features dramatic vertical wine display and a 10-meter-long illuminated bar.
The updated Crossroads Bar is defined by two levels of wine storage units faced with glass and steel and internally illuminated by dramatic blue light. This wall of wine not only acts as a design focal point for the room, but highlights the bar's extensive wine collection. A ten-meter-long bar is topped with black stone and faced with horizontal bands of warm, honey-toned wood the glows with recessed light. An intimate gathering area has been created beyond the bar, which offers views down onto Market Street below. Newly upholstered furniture animates the double volume space.
"Our goal was to design fresh and sophisticated interiors for this contemporary business hotel," noted Kate Greenwood, Managing Director of BBG-BBGM's Sydney office.
BBGM redesigned the hotel's ground floor lobby, enhancing its street presence by creating a window display and updating its finishes. The hotel's main lobby on the 8th floor has been redesigned to offer a greater sense of arrival for guests with enhanced graphics, and welcoming runner carpets. The concierge desk has been relocated to better serve guests.
In addition, the existing executive lounge was expanded and completely redesigned to meet the needs of the savvy executive traveler. The entry to the lounge was moved closer to the elevator lobby while the new lounge was outfitted with a well-stocked buffet, bar and accented by an indoor/outdoor terrace.
