ROADS
THE Jetedger, a new product development from Jetpatcher Roadtech, allows reinstatement of unsightly and dangerous broken road edges quickly and efficiently.
It works by mixing aggregate and emulsion on board the vehicle and introducing the mixture to the broken edge area by a spreader/edger. Once in position, the driver/operator has to drive the vehicle for the mixture to be delivered to the road from the Jetedger, giving a reformed straight edge finish. The Jetedger rebuilds up to 100mm in depth and up to 600mm wide.
The Jetedger is available as an attachment on new Jetpatcher or Jetmaster (remote control) Road Maintenance Units, or it can be retrofitted to most existing Jetpatcher Units or modified Tippers.

ATTACHMENTS
THE Bobcat landscape rake is available in two sizes:
5B 1534mm wide, 12 tooth bars, 384 teeth, 485kg weight
6B 1998mm wide, 12 tooth bars, 468 teeth, 510kg weight
The attachment eliminates hand raking, collecting surface debris and rocks down to 20mm, while smoothing and levelling the soil. The bucket provides storage for material collected by the raking bars. A hydraulic cylinder opens the top cover to allow debris to be dumped into a truck. The attachments are suited for grading, levelling and scarifying in tight areas, and preparing a site prior to seeding, paving or turf laying, and fit A-series skid steer loaders and the T190, T250 and T300 track loaders.

SIOUX Professional Power Tools has released its unique Sioux series Z-handle range of air-driven drills. The patented design uses a spur and bevel gear train to set the drilling axis at 45° to the handle. This plus a side-to-centre measurement of only 25mm makes for easy drilling in spaces and at angles that conventional drills would find difficult or impossible. There is a range of models up to 0.37kW in non-reversibles and 0.25kW in reversibles, with free speeds from 1000rpm to 5000rpm, and chuck sizes of 6mm and 10mm. All weigh 1.2kg and consume 8L/sec of air.

BUILDING
BLUESCOPE Lysaght collaborated with experts from Sydney University to achieve a major breakthrough in purlin design: the SUPAPURLIN range, available in SUPAZED® and SUPACEE® profiles.
Longitudinal web stiffeners significantly improve the performance of the purlin, allowing it to span greater distances, with increased spacing and fewer rows of bridging. New design software allows an engineer to key in spans and other data to produce a design, without the need to look up design tables.
Following a two-year trial of the SUPAZED® 200 purlin on the NSW market, Lysaght Bluescope invested $3.5 million in a new production machine to significantly reducing lead times for the purlin range, which will initially be available only in NSW.

SAFETY WATCH
FOLLOWING the collapse of formwork supporting the first floor of a building at North Balwyn (VIC) in 1991, a project management and engineering company was fined $8000, and the formwork and propping installer avoided prosecution through having been deregistered.
Independent investigation showed:
the formwork erected differed significantly from that which was designed and detailed
the design of the formwork was inadequate and had not been properly checked
the load limit of the formwork frames was exceeded.
WorkSafe Victoria executive director John Merritt said only luck prevented this incident from being a tragedy, with significant faults in the formwork not picked up during certification, despite contractors relying on this engineering expertise to ensure safety. He stated that civil engineers should know the Australian Standard for formwork (AS3610) like the back of their hand, and foreshadowed a statewide blitz on formwork and concrete pumping in 2004.
Information about safe formwork design and construction can be found on the construction webpage at www.workcover.vic.gov.au.
BRADYGLO™ photo-luminescent safety signs and low-location-lighting systems comply with multiple safety standards, and provide safety in buildings and production facilities during power outages.
The signs glow for 10 or more hours (absorbing and storing energy from ambient fluorescent lighting), are produced on safety-grade material, and are available in polypropylene or self-adhesive polyester in a variety of sizes.
A new non-electric exit sign will glow for more than 24 hours, taking only five minutes to charge. Phosphorescent materials can be used for other applications such as glow-in-the-dark aisle marking arrows, dots and footprints.
BradyGlo™ tapes are also available in stripes, solids and V- and arrow-styles. All produce an immediate visible message in the event of dark or smoky conditions.
THE General Mat Company has introduced the Multi-Guard No 220, an all-weather entrance matting designed to remove dirt and sand from shoes and boots before a person enters an office, factory or workshop. It can be cleaned easily by shaking or hosing, and is available in sizes 600mm x 800mm, 800mm x 1000mm, and 900mm x 1500mm.
