ACT GreenSmart village
Australia’s newest and largest GreenSmart village at Jerrabomberra in the ACT highlights how homeowners can dramatically reduce their energy bills by combining the latest developments in energy efficiency with up-to-the-minute building design and technology.
The GreenSmart display village program is the cornerstone of a nationwide initiative by the Housing Industry Association to encourage environmentally-sustainable housing design.
Among the various home styles at Jerrabomberra is a contemporary design featuring a dramatic curved roofline in BHP Colorbond steel designed by award-winning ACT architect Tony Trobe of TT Architecture. Trobe specified corrugated roofing and walling made from Gull Grey Colorbond steel for its thermal efficiency, design and quality on the Sales and Information centre at the display village. He says Colorbond steel in the neutral colour of Gull Grey takes on the colour of surrounding elements and is a good counterpoint to stronger colours. “It can be formed into a variety of shapes and aesthetically it is crisp and contemporary,” he notes.
The wall cladding, also made from Gull Grey Colorbond steel, was installed on the upper part of the structure, reducing the visual impact of the overall mass of the building.
