The first AkzoNobel UK Science Awards was held at the Royal Society of Chemistry in London to recognise key research contributions and innovations made in the UK.  

Sponsored by AkzoNobel UK, this prestigious event offered academic partners, customers and VIPs the chance to see how research and innovation played an integral part in the UK business landscape.  

The first UK Science Awards recognised the outstanding research contribution made by Professor Peter Bruce, FRS, Wardlaw Professor of Chemistry at the University of St. Andrews in the field of Chemistry. Professor Bruce received an award for his research into the next generation of rechargeable lithium batteries.  

Professor Bruce’s research on new materials and concepts that could make lithium batteries last longer and deliver more power has important implications for the electric vehicle and renewable energy industries.
