LEEC body handling solutions available from Enware Australia were installed in the recently-refurbished Human Anatomy Laboratory at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland.

Describing the new system as a big improvement, Peter Riordan, senior tutor and Human Anatomy Laboratory manager said that the LEEC equipment replaced body handling solutions designed and built 40 years ago. The previous equipment was not only large and heavy to move about manually, they were also not as adaptable as the new equipment, particularly for storage. Capacity was low for the laboratory space occupied by the older units leading to an inefficient workflow.

He adds the new rack storage cabinets for example, have greater capacity, despite being lower and not as wide. They are also easier to reach, and can store much more.

LEEC products supplied to the laboratory included single entry body storage fridge cabinets; single entry body storage cabinets with chill and freezer capability; body storage trays; pedestal downdraft embalming tables; heavy duty traction stacking trolley; and heavy duty low-loading stacking trolley.

According to Tim Fisher, general manager – Marketing and Innovation, Enware Australia, LEEC and Enware were selected for the project because of their extensive knowledge and experience, as well as an ability to convert client ideas into practical, usable and efficient solutions.

He adds that the LEEC products improve cleaning, storage capacity and storage flexibility, eliminate arduous physical effort from repeated body handling, minimising the risk of infection, and also reduce energy costs through a fridge/freezer cabinet system.

University of Auckland project manager Martin Ballard, who oversaw the laboratory refurbishment project, said LEEC impressed them during the tendering stage by coming over to New Zealand and presenting to them in partnership with Enware.

The LEEC-Enware combination was chosen because of their world-class products and the costs associated with that quality.

During installation, Enware led the project team and delivered excellent work, first reconnoitring the site with LEEC representatives from Nottingham, then working in association with the joint venture architects and the main contractor Fletcher Construction to complete the task.

The modular design of the LEEC equipment meant it could be fitted in just days and the project completed within the allotted time. 

LEEC products available through Enware Australia include trolleys, trays, embalming stations, racking, refrigeration units, cooling systems, bariatric models and a whole range of ancillary equipment.

Trolleys are made to order to meet the exact needs of each client and include hydraulic embalming trolleys, hydraulic stacking trolleys, low loading trolleys, viewing trolleys, roller top trolleys, and fixed top trolleys. 

LEEC’s 100% stainless steel trays feature a special 40mm raised perimeter profile to offer a full embalming platform. 

Embalming stations are developed from the unique LEEC body handling system to satisfy the demand from laboratory managers, mortuary technicians and funeral directors for reliable, durable and easy to clean embalming equipment. 

Racking is available in a range of variations, including height-adjustable freestanding systems, fixed height racking and mobile racking.
