Zane Solar Pool Heating answers some questions about its eco-friendly pool heating solution.

Q. How does an independent pool heating system work?

A. Pool water is pumped directly from the pool to the solar absorber on the roof. Once heated the water is returned to the pool. The system runs independent of and with no adverse effects on the pool filtration.

Q. Does solar pool heating really work?

A. Heating pool water is one of the most effective uses of solar technology. The Victorian Solar Energy Council surveyed existing owners of solar pool heaters and found that 94% would make the same decision again for 2 main reasons; solar energy is free, and pool usage and comfort were increased.

Q. Can a solar pool heating system be fitted to an existing swimming pool?

A. Yes. An integrated system can be easily fitted without affecting any other part of the pool structure. It uses the filtered pool water to ensure that clean water is sent to the roof absorber.

Q. Is it expensive to run a Zane solar heated pool?

A. No. Zane solar systems require only a small pump to push water onto the roof; the actual heating of the water is carried out by the sun, resulting in no costly electricity bills for pool heating.

Q. What temperature will pool temperatures reach?

A. Most swimming pools will achieve a comfortable temperature of 28°C to 32°C, dependent on pool size and usage, the amount of absorber and the location of the collector.

Q. How long does it take to heat a swimming pool?

A. Most pools will be fully heated 24 hours or less, depending on the weather and the system.

Q. Does the pool heating system work when the sun is behind clouds?

A. Yes. The solar absorber is still able to collect any radiated heat, although not as much as from direct sun.

Q. Will solar heating work all year round?

A. By using a Zane solar heated pool the average swimming season can often be doubled to up to eight or nine months of the year.

Q. When is the system required to run?

A. The Zane solar pool heating system is required to operate when the sun is shining and the roof temperature is warmer than the pool water temperature. The solar controller will automatically switch on when these conditions are met.

Q. Does the solar system require a lot of maintenance?

A. No. Zane Solar systems do not require any maintenance other than checking the strainer. To keep the system in top working condition an annual system check over is recommended at the start of each swimming season.
