The use of electroheat heat pumps is becoming a popular pool heating solution. Electroheat heat pumps supplied by Zane Solar Pool Heating Australia are reversed air conditioners that use an evaporator, a compressor, a condenser and a pressure control regulator device to heat water instead of cooling air. Heat is effectively extracted from the surrounding air and transferred to the swimming pool.
Electroheat heat pumps are highly efficient but have a low cost of operation. The only electrical energy required by electroheat heat pumps operates the compressor and fan motor. The manufacturer determines the BTU output at a specific water/air temperature and relative humidity value. To accurately compare one unit to another, these test values must be the same, or the comparison will be distorted.
A COP (coefficient of performance) rating is also given to electroheat heat pumps, generally 3 to 5 COP, which converts to an efficiency of 300 to 500%. This means that for every 1kW of electricity consumed, an electro heat pump can produce up to 5 kW of heat into the pool water.
Electroheat heat pumps maintain pool temperature 24 hours a day.
