Resurfacing, available from Worldwide Refinishing Systems , is a method where wall tiles, baths, shower trays and basin can be given a new surface in-situ without removal. The method comprises specialised surface preparation followed by spray application of a bathroom resurfacing coating system. The new surface is bonded to the old surface and is durable, attractive and easy to clean. One or two proprietary resurfacing systems have been in use for more approaching 40 years and have a scrub life of between
10 and 15 years in normal use.
Resurfacing also covers grout lines, so mould formation and gradual discolouration become a thing of the past. Plumbing fittings, mirrors and similar fixtures are not resurfaced and can either be reinstalled or replaced. Cupboards may either be replaced or resurfaced depending on condition and circumstances.
The winter months are a good time to consider internal renovations. Bathrooms are often in the ’too hard basket’ simply because of cost and inconvenience. Ripping out and replacing a bathroom from top to bottom is a daunting prospect, and so is the prospect of dipping into savings post global financial crisis.
There is nothing seriously wrong with the room, except that the wall tiles are rather 'dated’ and the bath is scratched and harder to keep clean. Not a good enough reason to spend upwards of $10,000, but what if the surfaces could be renewed for between $1,500 and $3,000 depending on the size and condition of the bathroom? Depending on size and condition, most bathroom resurfacing projects will fall within this range for a
durable showroom finish.
