Windsor Turf, a major north-western Sydney turf farm, advises that Sydney Water has recently introduced new Water Wise Rules to replace previous drought restrictions.
“Water Wise Rules have been introduced as dam storage levels have been around 60% for the past year. This, together with more recycling projects and desalination coming on line, means greater Sydney is in a stronger position. However, continuing to be water wise makes good sense.” – Sydney Water
Water Wise Rules allow customers to establish a new lawn using sprinklers or watering systems at any time of the day for 14 days from the date of installation. After the first 14 days, sprinklers and watering systems may only be used before 10 am and after 4 pm daily.
As a large, licensed grower-supplier of Sir Walter and other turf varieties, Windsor Turf has seen a major shift in recent years to the more drought tolerant varieties. Mr. Lance Yates, General Manager of Windsor Turf says hardy Australian-developed Sir Walter is an ideal turf variety to install, because it keeps its colour and grows well throughout the year—in shady or drier positions—while other types of turf are dying off.
The current Water Wise Rules apply to all Sydney Water customers in Sydney, the Illawarra and the Blue Mountains.
