Window film saves stock

Everyone loves the freedom of window shopping, and most retailers agree that a clever window display will attract customers.

Store owners on the Sunshine Coast share a common dilemma when it comes to window dressing though - how to protect items on display from the harsh Queensland sun?

Stephen Meade, owner of Forty Winks at Kawana, comments, “We needed a solution to the window display problem we were facing, our stock was fading at a rapid rate and we were losing money.” While researching solutions, Steve Meade discovered window film.

“I was convinced window film solved our problems when I learnt it could be retrofit to his existing windows, would not interfere with my window signage, would protect our product range and all the while would improve energy efficiency. Basically, it covered all bases” Steve Meade says.

Commercial case study:

  • Business: Forty Winks
  • Location: Kawana, Sunshine Coast
  • Applicator of film: Home Tint Sunshine Coast
  • Manufacturer of film: Johnson’s Window Films
  • Product: NS15 Johnson’s range
  • Amount: 162 square metres of window film was used
  • Rationale: The building houses an e wide range of stock and furnishings that needed protection from the harmful UV rays entering the large expanse of front windows. The business owner also wanted to reduce electricity bills by lowering the amount of heat and glare in the shop, and to decrease the demands placed on the office air conditioner in summer
  • Challenge: The window film had to be laid over the top of existing window signage and the stars already on the glass. This was done successfully
  • When completed: 21 August 2007

Rob Hamilton, President of the Window Film Association of Australia and New Zealand (WFAANZ), comments, “Quality window film products offer a reliable, long-lasting option for home or business owners wanting to save energy, improve comfort and security or reduce glare.”

Window film provided by a WFAANZ member is guaranteed to survive the harsh Australian climate, and has scratch-resistant coatings for protection and metallic layers for colour stability.

Advanced technologies mean window films now come in a greater variety of shades, colours and performance levels.

“WFAANZ sees itself as a major stakeholder in the energy debate. We take our environmental obligations seriously,” Rob Hamilton said.

“The globe is warming at a phenomenal rate and WFAANZ is proactively helping to reduce the effects of this wherever possible. As the energy crisis heats up, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is something WFAANZ encourages all Australians to aim for,” said Rob Hamilton.
