Viridian New World Glass congratulated the winning team at this year’s Solar Decathlon China 2013 Competition.

Team UOW, formed by the combined efforts of the University of Wollongong and TAFE Illawarra won first place at the event with their Illawarra Flame House entry. As a project sponsor, Viridian helped the student team meet the competition’s stringent scoring requirements by providing the energy efficient double glazing product, Viridian PerformaTech E for the house.

Referred to as the ‘Energy Olympics’, the Solar Decathlon competition challenges collegiate teams to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive. 

The first Australian team to make it to the Solar Decathlon finals, the group of over 50 students and staff from Team UOW secured first place ahead of 19 other teams earning the highest overall score and numerous awards for the design of their net-zero energy home. 

Congratulating the students on their outstanding win, Viridian’s Marketing Communications Manager Cameron Hook commented that the students were the young sustainability and design experts of the future, and Viridian was proud to help promote their innovative work on a global stage.

Team UOW Australia not only secured the highest overall score and earned first prize, but also received numerous first place rankings in various competition categories.
