Following a random audit by Landcom, Bellevale Homes has received a clean bill of environmental health.

Alan Sullivan, Manager Home & Land packages for Bellevale Homes, says the random audit provides a snapshot on the environmental aspects of their current major project, Hamilton Grove.

“It is like a report card on how our environmental controls are working and therefore it provides excellent feedback. Bellevale Homes received the highest mark ever achieved by a domestic builder.

“We are still building at the Hamilton Grove Estate and we have a responsibility to be sensitive to the current occupants to maintain strict environmental controls on the various aspects of home building construction such as waste management,” said Alan Sullivan.

Alan said Bellevale Homes is determined to maintain the lead in environmental, best residential building practice.

“Our environmental controls include special vehicle washing bays that trap materials through uniquely designed rock floor catchments.

“All vehicles associated with construction on site are required to stay on the roads or on special access ways designated at each site. Then we have sediment fences in front of each individual site, grass strips are laid in front of the gutter as an extra prevention of any waste material entering the drains” said Alan.

“Each tradesperson accepts responsibility for good housekeeping off the road. They have also been instilled with the attitude that every tradesman can make an environmental impact and are encouraged to report infringements of the guidelines by any other trades people. A signed register is kept on site confirming accountability by each trade/supplier.

“Emergency numbers, for incidents such as petrol or oil spills, have been established. Safety procedures are in place with signs on site indicating medical centre and hospital addresses and phone numbers and there is provision for emergency vehicle access.

Bellevale’s site construction manager, Steve Grayson, says the Hamilton Grove Waste Management Plan gives a further insight into the environmental controls.

Collex rubbish bins are placed strategically around the construction areas for waste collection. A report is provided to us each week giving a break up of materials collected for sorting and recycling,” said Steve.

Bellevale have established a site complaints register to monitor any deviations from established environmental controls.
