Where houses were built on ground with clay content, or on sand like much of The Gold Coast area, houses can develop serious problems.

Major or prolonged changes in the weather cause changes in the moisture content of foundation ground. Houses can sink a bit causing walls to crack and the houses to go out of level. Exemplifying this is a house at Tweed Heads, which was raised back to level recently by the unique Uretek process.

It has been described as ‘keyhole surgery for houses’ because it is un-intrusive. Expanding, structural resins are injected into the foundation ground through tiny holes spaced well apart. No excavation is required, therefore no mess.

Inspection of this house by Colin Pegg, Area Manager for Uretek, revealed extensive wall cracking, inside and out, caused by subsidence of the concrete floor slab: as much as 37 mm in some places.Wall skirting boards had even parted company with the floor in some places. The bottom plates of some internal walls had been left 20mm above the floor.

Mr Pegg reported, “In just one day, we raised the 93 square metres of subsided floor slab. The wall cracks came back to little more than hairlines that would disappear with re-decorating. And the windows and doors that had been sticking were able to work properly again."

“The owners didn’t need to move out. They were delighted with the whole process and the results.”
