Full brick homes gain full marks

Few people doubt the lasting relationship that Australians have with full brick homes. Whether it is because of its reliability or its natural capabilities to protect your family from this country’s harsh weather conditions, brick have always come first.

Now with the advantages of building in full brick becoming so well known, full brick homes are becoming increasingly popular.

There are many good reasons for choosing bricks for your home. However, perhaps the one that comes quickly to mind is the amazing durability of the product. Australians know that once you build with brick, your home will last as long as you, and then some.

“The durability of brick has never been in question. Home owners know that a full brick home can resist the knocks and scrapes of everyday family life better than any other material.”

“A wall built of kiln-fired bricks can resist the toughest of knocks by young children whether it be riding a bike into it or throwing a toy around said Bob Rushton, executive director of the Clay Brick and Paver Association .

Bricks are also maintenance free and will not rot, corrode or discolour. They are also unaffected by termites – and, of course, bricks never need painting. Only bricks are made from natural minerals that are kiln-fired to lock in their colour and strength.

“Unlike other materials which have to be painted or finished to preserve an acceptable finish the clay brick will not fade or need “re-vamping.” Therefore, the added cost and inconvenience of regular maintenance is immediately eliminated” added Bob Rushton.

Brick is also the perfect partner for Australia’s harsh weather conditions. As we all know, while parts of the year can be filled with floods and storms, others can include severe heats and droughts. No other material handles these extremes like full brick. “Brickwork helps stabilise internal temperatures. So, basically, brick homes are cool in summer and retain the warmth in winter” continued Bob Rushton.

Few other materials have the mass that is essential for excluding sound. The solid external walls of a home shield your family from outside noises such as traffic and brick internal walls allow families to live in peace. Children can do their own thing – like playing loud music or practicing an instrument whilst Mum and Dad can sit in the family room and read or watch TV.

Obvious results of these advantages are that brick houses set the standard in real estate. Clay brick houses are the most popular material used in Australia and they easily command the best resale prices. Real estate agents make it a point of advertising the fact that the home is FULL BRICK.

“Alternative materials and finishes are automatically compared with face brick, and are usually found lacking” says Bob Rushton.
