Stormtech is urging plumbing, building and design professionals to ensure their linear drainage floor wastes are fit for purpose to achieve code compliant work. This follows a recent plumbing industry advisory note issued by NSW Fair Trading.

Stormtech met with Plumbing Inspections and Assurances representatives to discuss the interpretation and issues behind the Plumbing Industry Advisory Note 5/2013.

According to Stormtech managing director, Troy Creighton, the Advisory Note does not change any current linear drain product selection or installation requirements. However, it flags the ‘fit for purpose’ aspect of these products, to ensure that the correct size of drain is used.

The Advisory Note specifically targets slab on ground applications where a linear drain will be the sole floor waste used in the bathroom. The DN80 riser to surface level is required only in this situation, and shower drains connecting to the main riser can have the normal DN40 outlet.

As the originator of the linear drain category, Stormtech welcomes the Advisory Note and endorses the enforcement of best practice installations and maintenance methods as laid out in the Plumbing Code of Australia. This issue has shaped the development of Stormtech’s linear drains since 1996, providing solutions for different applications. In fact, Stormtech developed the linear drain for showers in consultation with plumbing regulators, to ensure even the very first product was fit for purpose.

All Stormtech products are WaterMarked and have US UPC and Canadian CSA approval. Stormtech’s linear drain products come with Global GreenTag certification to help with GreenStar credits.
