Stainless steel lining work at Cairns airport
was involved in the re-development of Cairns' domestic and international airport terminals. The project demanded hard wearing materials to cope with environmental and design restraints that are typically placed on such heavily used pieces of public infrastructure.
Project architects and interior designers, Woodhead Firth Lee, specified around 1,000 m2 of unique stainless steel lining for use on the international airport's baggage check-in desks, columns, planter tubs, card tables, partitions and baggage handling conveyors.
Stainless Sections used the Deco range of embossed stainless steel sheet from Avesta Sheffield and was added to the patterned material by applying a uniform thickness powder coating. The sheet was then polished with a number four linishing line until the peaks of the profiled material were exposed with a plain linished finish. The powder coat was left in the gaps between the raised sections.
