Smeg have released an intuitive control, large capacity 60cm multifunction oven. Smeg offer a number of features with this appliance: a large cavity 60cm European oven with a cooking capacity of 68L, superior one-step enamelling process that gives an instant-clean, silk-like finish, interior steam clean, staggered shadow-free illumination and the unique intuitive cooking control. The large capacity of the Linear SA112-8 oven offers more than 20% extra cooking space over traditional 60cm ovens, which means, the oven can cook numerous courses simultaneously and cater for large groups.
While the oven is larger than its predecessors, it is also easier to clean. Its steam clean function enables a small cup of water, placed in the indentation on the oven floor, to moisten and lift the most stubborn burnt on food. This, coupled with the silk-like surface of the interior enamel, ensures that maintenance of the Linear SA112-8 oven is kept at a minimum and negates the need for catalytic liners or the use of harsh or caustic abrasives. Twin halogen lights, on either side of the oven’s interior, clearly illuminate all dishes irrespective of where they are placed in the oven.
The SA112-8 oven has an intuitive control panel that suggests temperatures, cooking times and shelf positions for standard ‘recipes’ such as meat, fish, chicken and vegetables. Any suggestions are easily over-ridden at the touch of a button.
By touching the icon that depicts meat, for example, the appliance immediately selects the most appropriate cooking mode – fan forced, baker’s function, static oven, rotisserie, grill, the exact temperature, the cooking time and also suggests the most appropriate shelf position.
All the suggested settings pre-programmed into the appliance have been tested in the Smeg kitchen for absolutely optimum results, but all of these can be over-ridden by the user temporarily or changed permanently. The user can also add another three family favourite recipes to the oven’s memory.
Additional features of the Linear SA112-8 oven are the new thermo seal system (whereby a ‘snub-nose’ thermostat has been fitted that is responsive and therefore fuel efficient), a large, tangential fan in the roof of the oven ensures superior cooling of both the oven door and the control panel and a removable triple-glazed door lifts out for easy cleaning.
