Revolutionary Roof Coating Leads To Major Air Conditioning Savings At Melbourne Airport

Product/Service Name

SkyCool

Applications
To cool industrial and commercial buildings by painting it onto the roof.

Recent Projects
Following their highly successful initial trial in 2005 of the revolutionary cool-building coating, SkyCool, the airport early in 2007 completed coating some 45,000 square metres of their domestic and international terminal roofing. So strong have been the results, that in participating in a major TV broadcast about best-practice environment management, they stated that even under peak loads they no longer require one of the four major air-conditioning units, and the remaining three units now run at only 80% of their former capacity.
Right from the initial deployment of SkyCool they have been shutting down air conditioning plants. Some 16 auxiliary units originally installed to address summertime overload conditions are no longer required since the application of SkyCool. Out in the new Airbus A380 first class lounges, SkyCool has enabled a dedicated air conditioning unit to cope with Melbourne’s extreme 40°C summer temperatures.
Following Melbourne’s successful deployment of SkyCool, other Australian airports have commenced ordering SkyCool for their own benefit.
Stimulated by the airport’s success local industry has increased its uptake of the coating. These include three buildings for a major Australian bank, a successful printing company and the spare parts head office for a major vehicle manufacturer.
In line with their objective to become “carbon neutral” within the decade, one of Australia’s major media companies has commenced measuring SkyCool’s effect on the roof of their 3,500 square metre printing press hall. Such facilities consume large amounts of air conditioning due to the internal machinery as well as the high solar loads on the roof. On advice from their energy consultants, this organization is expecting high returns from their SkyCool investment.

Colours and Finishes
white

General Advantages
Large temperature reduction in industrial and commercial buildings by eliminating the solar heat load through the roof.
