Responding to a recent resurgence of the indoor plant market, the contemporary and environmentally conscious Vertical Garden, designed by Joost Bakker and distributed exclusively by Schiavello , improves workplace performance and culture.

The average Australian spends up to 90% of their time indoors despite the fact that, according to current research studies, indoor air generally contains higher levels of pollutants and contaminants which can be more toxic to humans than the air outside.

It is with these findings in mind that Schiavello presents Vertical Garden – an organic approach to reducing the impact of artificial spaces. Designed by renowned installation artist Joost Bakker, Vertical Garden encapsulates Schiavellos pursuit of innovative commercial design, environmental sustainability and client centric focus.

According to the ACT Public Service Occupational Health and Safety Policy, good indoor air quality is an important component contributing to productivity, comfort and a sense of well being.

Indoor air should be free from odours, dust and contaminants, and be circulated to prevent stuffiness without creating draughts. Indoor air quality is determined by the introduction and distribution of adequate air for ventilation, the control of airborne contaminants and the maintenance of acceptable temperature and relative humidity levels.

Two potted plants per 30 square metres of floor space will help clean and freshen the indoor air quality.

Dr. Bill Wolverton, ex-NASA scientist and pioneer in plant studies on indoor air quality, suggests placing a plant within your "personal breathing zone," approximately 1.6 - 2.4 metres around your workspace, where you watch television or sleep.

Extremely space efficient, Vertical Garden is a grid system that allows numerous plants to be stacked vertically in freestanding columns or walls dramatically transforming any space.

Infusing an industrial sculpture with living plants, Vertical Garden’s design consists of natural materials interlaced with aspects of urban living, architecture and environment – an architectural highlight, allowing leaf and flower to inhabit spaces, creating a raw natural feature for corporate, residential, retail, and hospitality environments.

“The main philosophy behind my work is I don’t try to imitate nature. I do the complete opposite while still respecting it. The Vertical Garden is a living product,” Joost Bakker says.

To ensure effortless maintenance, Rentokil Tropical Plants, the plant hire and maintenance business is Schiavello’s official and exclusive National partner for Vertical Garden in Australia.

Vertical Garden is available in raw, black powder coated or galvanised finishes.
