Internationally recognised as one of the world’s most influential design events, Australia’s own premier design exhibition, designEX COMFIA, will return to Sydney for the 2004 event in April. Offering the very latest in international design and architecture, bringing together world-renowned design professionals and companies with dynamic young designers to create an inspirational showcase presenting the latest products, the newest trends, inspired thinking and innovative technologies. designEX COMFIA is endorsed by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA), (DIA), the (CFIAA) and the (IES) and presented by .
In addition, Market Week - Interior Trends , a comprehensive textile showcase, featuring Australia’s leading fabric houses displaying luxurious textiles from around the world, will be co-located with designEX in 2004.
Unlike any other design event in Australia, this constantly evolving exhibition is supported by both the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and the Design Institute of Australia and caters for, celebrates and cultivates all aspects of design, from architecture to interior design, both residential and commercial.
As a result, 2004 sees the introduction of the new Interior Design Awards of Australia (IDAA) scheme – a special collaboration between designEX, the Design Institute of Australia and Architecture Media Australia. This is set to create a much sought after benchmark for interior design in Australia. Looking further ahead to 2005, a unique partnership with the Royal Australian Institute of Architects will establish ‘Form & Function,’ a new trade exhibition co-located with designEX COMFIA, which will be the largest business, networking and education forum for Australia’s building and design industry. Form & Function will also incorporate the RAIA National Convention.
As well as the IDAA, designEX COMFIA will continue to exceed expectations with more innovative, new features such as, ‘Style in Steel’ – an industrial approach to ‘Rooms on View’ where guest designers are challenged to create the ultimate abode in the tight confines of a shipping container.
Other mainstay design events such as the Dulux Colour Awards, the Colourways feature and workshop and the Australian Design Awards Exhibition will continue, alongside 450 designEX COMFIA participants showing the latest in fabric, flooring, furnishing, shop-fittings, architectural hardware, window treatments, tiles, surface finishes, appliances, decorative accessories and artwork.
LightEX will feature the latest releases to illuminate residential commercial, industrial and hospitality environments and COMFIA, the official exhibition of the Commercial Furniture Industry Association of Australia, will display the latest in commercial furniture, componentry and fittings.
Last but not least, a regular highlight of the designEX program is its seminar series incorporating both international and local guest speakers to present and discuss the latest thinking in design from home and abroad. Fresh from Milan, young gun architect and industrial designer, Brian Steendyk, will also be able to share his experiences, opinions and observations of the ultimate design event first hand with his Australian audience.
