Rock Around the Block is a specialist online and mail-order pond, water garden and lighting retailer. The support from customers Australia-wide, combined with the power of the internet mean they no longer need their bricks and mortar store. They were located on the corner of Woodville Road and William Street in Granville, Sydney from January 1984 until 31 March 2006.
Their high profile orange rock is no longer at the front of their site, but remains a strong part of their identity. The huge orange rock which was located behind the fence on Woodville Road made Rock Around the Block well known in the Sydney landscape.
Rock Around the Block has traded online since December 1997, complementing their bricks and mortar store. Rock Around the Block is owned and managed by director, Philip along with a staff of eight. The sales staff: Ritchie, Graeme, Derek, Peter, Phill N and Alistair are well trained and have developed an extensive knowledge in the use of the full product range.
This is Rock Around the Block’s fifth generation online store since 1997. Their first generation website, launched in December 1997 provided customers with details of their complete pond and water garden product range and allowed orders by e-mail, phone and fax. Their second generation website, launched in December 1999, featured a fully database driven, easy to use interface with detailed search facilities, complete online shopping cart and SSL secure credit card facilities.
Their third generation website, launched in February 2002, featured a new, slicker and faster loading interface, upgraded 128 bit security, complete customer order status tracking and the introduction of a user forum. Their fourth generation website, launched in April 2003, was an incremental upgrade to the website to add customer requested features, including the ability to re-order previously ordered good, a wishlist (similar to that available on Amazon.com) and a new refreshing design.
This fifth generation website is a complete redesign from the ground up. It is running on a new faster server, with many exciting new features such as the ability to "email a friend", search for related products and buy gift vouchers for your family and friends.
