Reed Construction Data has reported that the number of new projects emerging nationally returned to historic average levels in August, following three months of inflated activity.
In September, the Civil Engineering sector reprised its place in the top spot, reporting 532 new projects nationally in August at a 40.2% share of all new projects reported. This quantity sits at 97 cases or 22.3% over this period last year and exceeds its 2009 monthly average of 460 projects for this sector. This was followed by Flats & Units reporting 251 new projects in August, at 19.0% of all new projects for the month. The third highest quantity of new projects was the previously inflated Community sector at 202 new cases for August, a 15.3% share of all new projects this period.
From a states viewpoint, VIC reported the strongest cluster of new projects for the second month in a row, resulting from consecutive post spike contractions by NSW. This was followed by NSW at 310 new projects in August, 23.4% of new projects nationally, and QLD at 244 this month. Of further interest is NT, with new project numbers tripling in this state since Aug-08, having increased to 48 cases in August 2009.
