Data points to cost savings
CSR Hebel proved to be the most affordable option when compared to other rendered systems when building a two storey house according to findings from Reed Construction Data . In NSW, SA and Victoria in particular, Hebel was also proven to reduce costs compared with face brick.
The model and pricing structures used for the study were based on custom built homes constructed by small to medium size builders who would construct up to 30 homes a year. Two construction methods were used in the models for different systems including framed construction and solid masonry with all housing models being built to minimum BCA standards.
The findings show the age old method of per square metre cost for products does not dictate the outcome of the total costs of the house. This can be seen in the report (through the framed construction method), demonstrating that although the Hebel panels were more expensive per square metre, the total cost of the house was lower.
Significant costs in material and labour costs are said to provide the most compelling reasons to use CSR Hebel. By reducing costs associated with preliminaries and trades, Hebels are claimed to be great value for money when compared with face brick, with Hebel blocks offering a cost effective solution when compared with cavity brick.
