Pyrotek Noise Control has helped The Uniting Church in Hornsby, NSW with Echohush Cosmo room acoustic solutions. The Church had been having ongoing problems with its public spaces.
The main public areas consisted of two halls, which were separated by a thin, moveable wall. On one side of the dividing wall features a carpeted space to host devotional services, but on the other side it is a wooden-floored hall that is used for activities, meeting and other loud goings-on. This caused problems for the worshippers because they couldn’t understand what their priest was saying.
As a result, complaints arose and the Church’s trustees had asked the RSA Acoustics/SLR Consulting to assess the problem. They discovered that the hall did not have acoustical wall treatment. The sides of the wall were mostly brick construction with glazed windows, which provided very little area for treatment. The drapes did not provide sufficient areas of absorption, as well as the timber floor and carpet covering.
The most effective area for treatment was the plasterboard ceiling, which led to two available options of absorptive panels suspended from the ceiling or absorptive panels directly fixed to the existing ceiling.
