As summer draws near it is important to take note of how the changed weather conditions affect work methods in the plastering industry.
During the hotter seasons of the year plasterers have to be mindful of the compounds they use as the drying process is much faster due to the early exit of moisture within the compound. This can affect the chemical action of the plaster and may severely interfere with plaster joints’ bond strength.
Hot and windy weather can affect setting times of plaster with compounds drying a lot quicker than their regular set times.
During the summer months the temperature of the wall and ceiling sheets should always be checked. If they feel hot a plaster compound with a faster set time should be used, allowing the chemical bonds in the plaster to form properly making them much stronger.
