Powers Fasteners range of vandal proof fixing systems
Fairbrother in partnership with John Holland was awarded the $58m construction of the Tasmanian Prisons Redevelopment Program (Stage C) at Risdonvale in November 2003.
The new development includes the construction of a 219 bed Men’s Prison, a 45 bed Women’s Brisbane-based Architectural firm Philip Smith Conwells history of expertise in correctional services facility projects once again saw Powers Fasteners range of vandal proof fixing systems incorporated into the design of many of the fit–out specifications through the project.
Used extensively through both medium and maximum security zones the Powers Spike anchors proved to be fast and simple to install while providing optimum loads in both shear and tension.
Used on many previous correctional services projects in Australia over the last decade the
Spikes high tensile spring steel holding power ensures that a permanent expansion is achieved with the aesthetic mushroom head style providing a vandal proof smooth safe finish.
6, 5 mm diameter spikes of varied lengths were used for applications such attaching cupboards and book shelving, mirrors and cameras while the10mm diameter sizes used for the larger load requirements such as kitchen bench tops, desks, communal tables etc.
Spikes were also used to hold a tie–down bar anchoring the perimeter razor wire fence to the concrete slab floor.
Powers Fasteners’ SFS/Intec irius screws were also specified to fix back steel cover plates protecting service plumbing both internally and externally.
The proprietary drive system of the irius drive screws enabled a vandal resistant fastening system that also has the flexibility to be removed with the aid of the special E420 setting tool, so maintenance or alterations could be achieved if needed.
