The redeveloped State Library of Queensland has achieved a dramatic result in re-engaging one of Queensland’s major cultural institutions that has been designed with a rich diversity of contemporary settings for both individual and group applications.
Inspiration for the unique carpet tile design was based on the State library's corporate red colour, and a clever connection with the botanical print effects found on the inside of many traditional hard covered books.
The botanical graphic that was selected reflects the Harpullia Pendula, a local native tree that grows around the library area. The same graphic expression has also been utilised on doors and the western external wall.
Different colour variations of the carpet tile were also employed to differentiate floor levels to ease the process of navigation around the building.
Ontera Envisions cut pile carpet tile was selected for this project based on a proven track record in wear resistance that is necessary in such a demanding, high foot-traffic public space.
