Ontera has provided a manufacturing example showing how to gain maximum credit points in the Green Star – Office Interiors rating tool.
Ontera Modular Carpets P/L is an Australian manufacturing company based in Northmead NSW, and is now part of the Cavalier Corporation. The company has been in operation since 1985 and is exclusively focussed on the design, manufacture and supply of modular carpet (carpet tiles) for a wide variety of commercial projects throughout Australia and New Zealand.
There is a growing awareness of the impact that construction and building materials have on the environment. As a result, many stakeholders in the building industry are now seeking to identify, specify and use products that are able to provide a reduction of these impacts.
Ontera has now developed a range of product called Greensquare that has demonstrated significant achievements in the minimisation of environmental impacts, and will help to maximise credits in the Green Star - Office Interiors rating tool.
There are 7 criteria where the selection and specification of flooring can provide credit points in the Mat-2 section.
1. Eco-preferred content (min 20% by mass recycled content required to gain max points).
2. Durability. (Min 15-year warranty required to gain maximum points).
3. Environmental Management System, EMS.
4. ISO 1400-2004 Accreditation.
5. Product Stewardship, i.e. product take back policy.
6. Modular.
7. Designed for disassembly.
All Ontera Greensquare products gain a maximum of 100% product score (or five points out of a possible five).
All Ontera products would also score a maximum possible four points out of four for low-VOC emissions in the IEQ-11 section of the Green Star Interiors rating tool.
