Two Australian projects were winners in the Antron Design awards, which acknowledge projects that make innovative use of Antron carpet fibre; the Broadwater Kalgoorlie Resort, in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia in the hospitality category and the Australian Law Courts Library in NSW which was highly commended in the corporate/office category.
The Broadwater Kalgoorlie Resort’s Antron carpet fibre installation assisted in creating a fresh look and feel for the hotel. The designers wanted a carpet that would reflect a prestigious, contemporary image while maintaining comfort and practicality. The carpet was designed to complement the bold red and blue furniture and to disguise the impact of the harsh desert earth. The Antron carpet fibre, chosen to complement the natural ambience of the hotel, was in earthy tones of salt bush, sky blue and red earth with a bird motif, the logo for the Broadwater Hotel Group.
The carpet, chosen by Neil Cownie of Overman & Zuideveld is ‘Envisions’ from Ontera Modular Carpets using Antron Legacy nylon fibre. The carpet provided excellent performance credentials including outstanding soil resistance and appearance retention. The white dyeable fibre also enabled unlimited design flexibility in terms of colour and pattern usage.
The result was a hard-wearing, fresh-looking carpet that is easy to maintain, while the incorporation of the logo reinforced the hotel’s identity.
Meanwhile for Australia’s Law Courts Library, highly commended in the corporate/office category, the chosen Antron Carpet Fibre reflects a fresh, contemporary approach while maintaining a quiet and comfortable atmosphere. The carpet pattern was selected for its strong, guiding directionality, guiding users through the open spaces and was used to create rectangular zones of colour on the floor. These shapes correspond to the same shapes in back-lit sections of the ceiling directly above - subtly demarcarting special use zones.
The carpets by Ontera, chosen by Joanna Lukasewicz Architect, are ‘Paintbox’ and ‘Tatami Fields’ by Interface used Antrong Legacy nylon. The carpets provided excellent performance credentials, including outstanding soil resistance and appearance retention. The white dyeable fibre also allowed for unlimited design flexibility in terms of colour and pattern usage.
