Townsville business, Road Maintenance Specialists (RMS) has added a New Holland compact W50 wheel loader to its fleet to save up to $100,000 in transport costs annually, according to its Operations Manager.

RMS works within a 900km radius around Townsville providing civil construction, spray sealing and road profiling services for clients including the Queensland State Government and engineering and construction company, Abigroup.

The W50 loader will be used primarily for loading pre-coated aggregates ranging in size from 7mm to 16mm into spreading trucks for use on road spray sealing applications on major road works projects in Queensland. It will additionally be used to lift one-tonne containers filled with additive from the truck.

According to Operations Manager Rob Minchinton, with their equipment travelling an average of 10,000km a month between jobs, fitting more than one piece of equipment on each of their 9-metre floats helped make a significant difference to their bottom line.

RMS’ older machine was so large that it was the only piece of equipment that could be fitted on the float. The W50 wheel loader features a 54HP engine, 0.7 cubic metre bucket capacity and a compact construction that allows the company to fit two pieces of equipment on a single float, reducing the associated transport costs.

The W50 is the first New Holland equipment in RMS’s fleet that also includes approximately 90 pieces of equipment ranging from skid steers to loaders. Rob expects to add more New Holland gear to their fleet given the favourable response received from his team.

Key features of the New Holland W50 wheel loaders:

  • Hydrostatic transmission and maximum hydraulic flow of 52 l/min
  • Powered by a four-cylinder 54HP diesel engine
  • 0.7 cubic metre bucket capacity
  • Comfortable cabin with 360-degree visibility
  • Excellent access for service
  • Turning radius of 4.3m, making it ideal for use in tight spaces
