Following extensive research and product testing, Victorian-based window manufacturer, Miglas High Performance Windows and Doors , has developed a bushfire-resistant window and door system that complies with the new Australian Bushfire Standard AS 3959:2009.
The Miglas FireGuard 40 window and door system complies with the new Australian standard AS 1530.8.1, and is currently the only window and door product series to achieve compliance with AS 3959:2009, Construction of Buildings in Bushfire Prone Areas, without the need for external screen or bushfire shutters.
The Miglas Fireguard 40 window and door system was designed, developed, and manufactured in Australia, and has undergone rigorous testing by the Exova Warrington Fire testing laboratory in Dandenong, Victoria, to be approved for use on sites with a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) of up to and including BAL-40.
Miglas Fireguard 40 timber-aluminum composite windows and doors feature aluminium externally to protect from ignition, while internally, timber provides thermal insulation and stability. Miglas Fireguard 40’s bushfire-resistant status is completed with PyroGuard 40 from Australian glass manufacturer, Viridian that provides a solid barrier against radiant heat transfer and embers.
Homes with a site rating higher than BAL-LOW that do not use AS 3959:2009 compliant windows are required to install metal screens in order to meet the standard, which can result in homes having a prison like atmosphere. Miglas FireGuard 40 eliminates the need for such screens and home occupants can continue to enjoy natural light, ventilation and unobstructed views to the outdoors.
Miglas FireGuard 40 window and door systems are available throughout Australia, and are available in a range of different configurations, including awning windows, casement windows and fixed windows, as well as hinged doors and sliding doors. Miglas FireGuard 40 window and door systems have been tested in excess of the size required by the standard to a maximum of 2.4m x 2.6m to provide a product that caters for modern architectural demands.
