LiteSteel beam makes the grade on steep sites.
Restricted access to this awkward and steep site proved that LSB was the right choice for this Queensland home. The long spanning joists were easily lifted into place by two people, eliminating the need for an on site crane.
The shallow depth of LSB kept the floor structure to only 200 mm, maximising the headroom space below and minimising rock removal. Easy to use standard connections meant that the job was completed on time and within budget.
Overall benefits of LiteSteel beam in residential sub-floors:
- Long spans > 5m
- Minimum depth
- Light beams meant a quick and easy install without a crane
- Joists were the same depth as internal bearers, maximising clearance below the floor
Facts:
- Builder: DJ Builders
- Engineer: STA
- LSB sections used: Joists = 200 x 60 x 2.0 LSB
- Connections: LSB screwed to angle brackets
- General description of project: A single storey luxury home on a steep block. A garage was incorporated below the floor. The LSB joists spanned 5.6 m between bearers, increasing the headroom below the floor and reducing the volume of shale to be removed.
