The KID (Krell Interface Dock), available from Len Wallis Audio , is built with Krell’s no-holds-barred approach to quality ingredients and finish.
The Krell iPod Dock fits in with the Evolution series of pre-amps, power amps and players.
Krell is being logical and catering to the fact that it is now possible to carry a large collection of music around in an iPod.
With capacities of 80GB or 160GB, there is room to store a lot of music without too vicious a compression algorithm—perhaps a lossless one.
Or, if there is a need to maximise the quality, the music can be stored uncompressed.
A 160GB capacity translates to around 240 CDs worth of uncompressed code, using an average CD length of 65 minutes.
Krell has tapped directly into the fully differential output of the DAC in the iPod and maintains balanced differential Class-A through to the XLR or RCA outputs.
The KID has bass and treble controls, video output (S-Video) and a full function remote control. There is also an auxiliary 3.5mm stereo input on the front panel. Krell has plans to release Papa Dock, a 150 watt power amplifier into which the KID docks and connects.
