Melbourne-based civil contractor Rokon Pty Ltd is set to double its annual turnover after introducing a Topcon HiperLite rover system to its operations, eliminating the need to bring in a survey team and greatly speeding up operations.
The company, owned by Jim Thomas and Ali Sekman, carries out small and medium-density subdivision projects throughout the southeastern Melbourne region. It runs a fleet of four excavators and a backhoe.
“The main advantage in using the GPS is just how efficient our business has become,” said Jim. “The people on site aren’t so reliant on me being there. My time has been freed up, and with that, I’ve had more time to chase more work, so we’ve actually picked up a lot more business.
“Our turnover with the purchase of the GPS will probably double in the next six months,” he said.
“Not only that, we’re getting the jobs finished more efficiently, so the pressure’s on me to get the work; because Ali’s finishing quicker, he’s getting the sites finished quicker.
“He’s ringing me up, saying ‘we’re going to be finished here soon, where’s the next job?’,” said Jim.
The Topcon HiperLite GPS+ rover is available from Laser Beams .
