The use of Topcon GPS-based surveying and setout products has resulted in a number of cost-saving and efficiency advantages for a Melbourne subdivision contractor.
Ciccone Constructions specialises in subdivision works, primarily in Melbourne’s northern and western suburbs, and pretty much carries out all civil works on its projects – from initial bulk excavation works through to final trim and finishing. This includes all clearing and levelling, road works (except asphalting), stormwater and sewerage excavation and pipeworks.
The company, which has been in business for nearly 18 years, uses a fleet of excavators, graders, loaders and other equipment. One of its recent purchases has been two Topcon Hiper+ wireless GPS+ Topcon base stations and two Topcon survey rovers, allowing Ciccone to take control of all its site setout operations. “Since we purchased the Topcon package from Laser Beams, we have found we are a lot more productive,” said managing director John Ciccone.
“We are now using this system for all our setout work, from the initial earthmoving to final finishing, setout of services, roadways, and so on – in fact, the whole subdivision,” he said.
