Laing O'Rourke’s subsidiary companies

Laing O'Rourke  provide specialist products and services complementary to their construction portfolio through their subsidiary companies, which include the following:

  • Austrak
  • Redispan
  • Select
  • Expanded

Austrak

Since their establishment in 1980, Austrak have produced more than 11 million prestressed concrete railway sleepers, representing more than 7000 kilometres of track.

Austrak have also introduced prestressed concrete turnout bearers to Australia and manufactured bearers for more than 2200 turnouts or crossovers.

As an innovator in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of concrete sleeper manufacturing plants, Austrak have built and operated 10 factories since the company’s inception.

Factory capacity ranges from 50,000 to 700,000 sleepers per year, depending largely on client or project demand.

Austrak also benefit through licensing agreements from the technology of Swedish innovator Abetong Teknik, where a close relationship allows access to leading-edge technology, knowledge transfer and sharing.

Austrak’s head office is in Brisbane and their current manufacturing facilities are located in Rockhampton QLD, Geelong VIC, Wagga Wagga NSW and Wedgefield Port Hedland WA.

Austrak’s extensive concrete sleeper range accommodates the following:

  • Gauges – 2ft, narrow, standard, broad gauges
  • Axle Loads – 9 tonne for tramways, up to 30 tonne for freight, up to 50 tonne for heavy haul mineral lines
  • Associated products – turnout bearers, dual gauge sleepers, guard rail sleepers and monorail sleepers

Redispan

Redispan Conveyors manufacture and market modular, pre-engineered, stressed skin conveyor gallery systems for materials handling applications.

These highly versatile systems have become an integral part of major Australian power generation, export ports, mining and minerals treatment facilities.

The patented Redispan Modular Conveyor Gallery System is competitive in cost efficiency, environmental performance and versatility.

Continuing ongoing investment in research and development has ensured that it remains ideal for Australian resource projects.

Redispan’s totally enclosed modular construction system was originally developed to ensure water containment during coal wash down but has achieved long-term success, because of the additional benefits of noise reduction, minimised maintenance, and dust and spillage containment when handling a wide variety of materials.
